British high roller Max Silver has announced his retirement from the world of professional poker after a stellar career. The World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner is to finally call time after an 18-month period without working on his game.

Max Silver is one of the nice guys in the community. His opponents never have a bad word to say about him and his presence at a live poker table normally ensures friendly banter.
The Englishman who resides in Dublin, Ireland, has a live poker record that sets him among the best players in the world except maybe the true elite. Not bad at all.
This isn’t an announcement as much as a short self relection

Silver leaves the sport with a record of $4,864,184 in live tournament winnings and a World Series of Poker gold bracelet for victory in the $ 3,000 Limit Hold’em – 6 Handed (Event #53) in 2017.
In 10 years of playing live events he boasts a total of 14 victories.
His best two cashes being €600,924 ($ 702,005 ) for winning the €10,300 No Limit Hold’em – High Roller (Event #27) in 2018, and $432,960 for taking down the United States $24,000 + 1,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller at the Aria in 2015.

Silver Made it Fun
There’s no doubt that Max Silver made it his goal to have fun in what is generally thought of as a serious pursuit. The world beaters have a reputation of being devoid of fun while putting in countless solitary hours in the lab.
Silver was a semi-reg on the high roller circuit but always had time to poker fun at himself. The following tweet shows his table just before the action kicks off as one superstar after another sits down.

There was also the chin up prop bet with John Juanda only a couple of months ago.
After booking a $25,000 bet to be able to do 20 consecutive chin ups within a year Silver lost out.
With more than 6 months of the challenge gone he could still only do 3. Not his finest hour ,and this is a man with a reputation for putting in the effort.
Eventually he made it to 18 but was forced to hand over the sum to Juanda who donated it to charity.
Max Silver Leaves Poker at His Peak
It is interesting that Silver decides to leave his career behind so soon after some of his best results.
He says he hasn’t studied away from the table for over 18 months which means he won an EPT High Roller, an Irish Open High Roller in both 2017 and 2018, and his WSOP gold bracelet in the year before winding down his career.
Even during the wind down Silver won the Unibet Open online in May 2020 for €77,321. He can clearly come back and perform if he wishes so.
